I'm no Gold apologist, but I think it's hard to argue that his WSOP win was pretty dominant and extremely well played. I don't think from about 50 players down to the end that his position as clear leader was challenged?
Is he some fantastic player? Of course not (and I didn't vote for him). But you have to give him credit for his one magical week. He's undoubtedly in the top 20 simply because his win was recent and there is more general public voting than we probably realize.
