Medium: manga (there is also an anime, but Masa's way past the point it covers and I admit I am a manga purist)

Characters wanted: ANYONE. Though I admit I would especially love a Yoshimori or a Sen. Or a Sumiko. Or anyone, anyone would be excellent.

Why you should watch/read/play:
So you know that shonen where there are massive training arcs before any fight and it's all about getting more power? This isn't that shonen.

You know that shonen where the male lead is constantly rescuing the female lead? This isn't that shonen.

You know that shonen where it just takes a character one arc to get over their issues? This isn't that shonen.

You know that shonen where the characters all seek revenge when someone dies but their grief is ignored outside of that? This isn't that shonen.

This is Kekkaishi. This is where the ability to use your skills well matters more than raw power. This is where the male lead gets his butt saved by the female lead in the first chapter (and afterwards). This is where characters sometimes

Do you ever look at your anime and think, this needs more allegory, striking direction, and combinations of rock and choral music! Of course you do. So Revolutionary Girl Utena is the series for you!

IT HAS SYMBOLIC ROSES. IT HAS HEARTBREAKING, COMPLEX CHARACTERS. IT HAS STRANGE GIRLS WHO ACT AS A GREEK CHORUS. IT HAS CURRY THAT MAKES PEOPLE SWITCH BODIES AND A GIRL BECOMING A WERECOW. IT HAS TONS OF HOMOEROTIC SUBTEXT. AND ACTUAL TEXT. IT HAS EPIC SCOPE, AND SOME OF THE MOST HEARTBREAKING AND INSPIRING MOMENTS TO BE ON A SCREEN. IT HAS STRIKING VISUALS AND AWESOME MUSIC.

IT HAS...things that are potentially very triggering, I will warn you of that up front.

What Neon Genesis Evangelion did for a particular branch of shonen? Revolutionary Girl Utena did that for all of shojo. Think about that.

Title: Full Metal Alchemist
Medium: 2003 Anime
Characters wanted: ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY!
Why you should watch/read/play: Cause it's awesome.

It's a very well rounded anime. It's funny but it also deals with very deep themes. If you prefer idealism, you might not like it but if you like it when the hero has to work for his reward and sometimes even that isn't enough to get everything you want, you'll like this.

Ummm...Roze is from there! (There's actually a lot of likable characters. I find the lead awesome.)

Title: Daredevil (2003) | Elektra (2005)
Medium: Movie! A comic book movie(s) no less. It's basically cheating if you want to play some cool characters and not try to sort through 30+ years worth of canon.
Characters wanted: ANYONE. I'd really love a Matt Murdock most of all for obvious reasons. Stick or Abby Miller would be also super awesome too.
Why you should watch/read/play: Basically it's a huge guilty pleasure. These were made back in the day before Batman Begins or even Spider-Man 2 were around to set the bar high. Even so Daredevil does its best to pay homage to the original work. Panels from the comic are very faithfully adapted into this movie while still making it clear this is its own universe. The characters are a little different from their 616 counterparts but, I feel mostly in a good way.

I highly recommend if you watch both the Director's Cut and the mainstream version of Daredevil though for the full story. Spoilers: there's an entire story with Coolio in it that explains a lot of important plot points.
