I have a friend who's terribly bright and gets bored easily. He sets himself challenges such as Exercises in Song: 'Show Me The Way To Go Home' rewritten in two dozen different styles, that is, new words to the same tune, one version each day throughout Advent. He's halfway through; add quietlittlelies for the rest. Not only a winning idea, but well executed.

Aww wow, those are fantastic. I love "Animism" and "Telegraphic", and I did a proper LOL at "Olfactory". Plus, coincidentally, I'd just decided I wanted a book of writing exercises, and this has alerted me to the Queneau book. (I've read the comics version, 99 Ways To Tell A Story, which is great, but not Exercises in Style.)
