Ding!
Selena glanced cautiously at her lap top when she heard the all too familiar alert from her email. Her blog had only been up for half an hour, had someone already commented on it? She was nervous. Selena knew the only times her nerves got the best of her was when she had been around Demi or at the beginning of her career when everything had still been new to her.
Selena slid into the chair in front of her computer as she abandoned her song book behind. She closed her eyes for a moment before she clicked on the new email from LJ.
RoCkStAr92: I bet Demi would comment with: I <3 my Lena Bear
Selena froze.
Demi had been the only one who had ever called her Lena Bear. She hadn’t been called that in years. The nickname had disappeared as their distance had grown. Neither one of them had revealed that nick name to the press. It had been special. It had been the one thing they had left that was theirs when the media had over run their lives.
Selena couldn’t help but feel hopeful. Maybe it had been Demi that posted the comment.
Selena pulled out her cell phone. She gathered up all her courage to send a text to the one girl she hadn’t texted in months. She sent a quick text hoping she was right. If it had actually been Demi that had written the comment then she knew everything would be alright. She didn’t dare think of the possibility that someone else had found out about the nick name. Her heart couldn’t comprehend that thought yet.
‘Demi Bear’
Of course Demi had been the first to anoint Selena with the nick name of Lena Bear. Selena, who was used to calling Demi Demetria, didn’t want to feel left out. It was the reason she had begun using the nick name Demi Bear for her best friend.
“I was hoping it was you.”
Selena would have been able to recognize the owner of that voice even if it had been years since she had heard it. Hope shot through her body like a tidal wave. Selena spun around trying desperately to keep the grin off her lips and the hope out of her eyes.
She failed miserably doing that.
But it was ok because Demi’s expression mirrored Selena’s.
“I thought I lost you,” Selena admitted quietly.
Demi didn’t respond. Instead she strode forward and pulled Selena into her arms. Selena had missed being so close to her best friend. She missed how perfectly she fit in Demi’s arms. Almost as if she had belonged there all along.
“I missed you Lena Bear,” Demi admitted.
“I missed you too Demi Bear.”
Then Demi’s lips crashed into Selena’s. It was everything Selena had imagined. It was everything she had wished for. They broke apart moments later and rested their foreheads together. Selena felt content for the first time since the day she had realized she loved Demi.
“Don’t ever leave me again Demi,” Selena whispered.
“You couldn’t get rid of me if you tried.”
