addie wanted out.

"Adele." Her mom said in that polite tone that only Addie could identify is being upset. Addie looked up and paid attention to her surroundings again. Of course she could only pretend to be interested in these pureblood 'get togethers' for so long. Purebloods mingling with purebloods discussing how awesome they were and how they should continue to be awesome. The women acting like birds pecking and talking in their little groups while the men retreated to a room where they could get the hell away from them.

Addie wished for a place like that. To get the hell away from everyone here. There was really only a few people that ever were worth being around at these parties. She nodded politely and curtsied for some asshole and then excused herself. Escape. Get the hell out. She saw the trainees gossiping near the food and gave them a look, much like the one they all gave her and then started whispering.

It was at that moment she bumped into someone. "Oh.." Addie wasn't one for saying sorry or excuse me; not to these pricks. But when she stepped back and saw the older boy she couldn't help but smile a bit. "Sorry..didn't mean to." He was probably a jerk and Addie pursed her lips visibly as she tried to remember that.

Instead of accepting her apology or even asking her name he simply stated. "Merlin I hate these things." It was in that moment that Addie actually found someone she didn't mind talking to at those parties.

Flirting was easy; this was a little known fact that Addie had discovered . A perk was that it tended to hold no consequence; especially if you only flirted with those completely out of your reach. It worked on multiple levels: it was fun to do, it kept the witches of eastwick thinking what she wanted them to think, and she didn't have to follow through on any of it.

So when she saw Edward McMillian in the library she didn't think anything of it to flirt with him. But for some reason he was different that night. There was no laughter, no brush off. In fact it was quite the opposite. Hidden in those book stacks Ed leaned down and kissed Addie after she had told him too. She hadn't thought he'd actually do it. But there it was and he had kissed her. Her first kiss.

The next day Ed was back to himself and Addie had to wonder what the hell had happened. It only proved her point. Boys weren't worth being emotionally invested in, but they did seem to have their perks.

Before the parties, before Addie had felt the need to put up that wall around herself, there was Tim. More specifically there was Ellen. Addie felt that with people like them around it proved there might be some sort of normal out there and it gave her hope. Sometimes she liked to believe that they were actually her family and not the Parents she actually had. All she wanted was someone to tell her that she was fine the way she was.

Ellen was that for her. And then she was gone. Addie's world shattered. She withdrew from the world, from Tim, and started to believe that her family was the real truth to the way things were. They don't speak much anymore but that bond that was there so long ago still exists and tugs on her; telling her that the world isn't as bad as she believes, there are good people in this world. People like Tim.
