Character Information
Name / LJ Username (if available): Adelaide Adams /
http://adelaideadams.livejournal.com/House: Ravenclaw
Age / Birthdate: 16 / August 25 (Virgo)
Year: 6th
Bloodline / Heritage: Halfblood (Her mum’s an artsy Hogwarts grad who bewitched her lucky Muggle father; they’re really quite in love.) / Mixed - British on her father’s side, Dutch on her mother’s side.
Personal History: Adelaide Adams was born on a warm, rainy Sunday at Number 713 Fleet Street in London, by care of a very red-cheeked midwife. It was immediately evident from her infantile flailing and screaming that Adelaide would be a particularly active, vocal child. Her parents Avalon and Graham looked upon her with proud, dreamy eyes as the midwife placed the shrieking child in her mother’s arms - it was the moment where the small bundle of cries and wrinkly skin became their daughter and she could do no wrong. Not even when, at the tender age of seven, she suspended a neighborhood boy named Edmund Underhill upside-down by his shoelaces in mid air after he had tied hers together at school. Her mother realized the significance of this strange ability, and found she had some explaining to do to her naïve Muggle husband, who at that time was none the wiser about either his wife or child being magical. Needless to say, he was shocked; quite literally, in fact: he was changing a light bulb at the time, poor man. But Mister Adams has managed to take the news fairly well since then… although he’s started a strange habit of talking to himself. As for the hapless boy who was suspended by his shoelaces? Well, he’d only pulled a prank on Adelaide because he fancied her, and that is generally what boys are supposed to do at the age of seven. Let us say he fell as quickly out of his affections for her as he did to the ground once she’d let him go. Little Edmund Underhill never looked back and ran straight home to his mummy.
Since that time, Adelaide has not much improved her rapport with the male sex, as she is generally awkward, gangly, and clumsy in speech and physicality. If there is a crack in the floor, even an invisible one, Adelaide will trip over it - and probably already has. This is not to say she does not manage her appearance well; in fact, she’s quite fair of face and lustrous of hair and all that - but she’s so busy sticking her foot in her mouth or tumbling out of chairs that most people wouldn’t really notice. Once sent to Hogwarts, Adelaide quickly learned she had a much better knack for book learning than practical magic, and so always made the extra effort to apply herself at Charms and other like skills since they took more practice. But her one special triumph, her niche, the only place she found she wasn’t a klutz, was on a broom. From her first day of Flying class, she was best mates with her broom, and quickly convinced her parents to upgrade it to a Nimbus 2000. After much hard practice and not so subtle spying on the House Quidditch team, she went out for Beater in her 2nd Year and made it! Her position on the team is basically the only thing she feels she is truly successful at and therefore clings to it dearly. Perhaps if she had a little more grooming and self-confidence she might appreciate her skills in other areas.
Personality: Adelaide, known as Addy amongst her friends, is outspoken to a fault. Her reasons are two-fold: one, because she is highly opinionated and feels she has a right to be, with as much studying as she does; and two, because she has a simple, foolish tendency to babble. Even when she would like very much to just shut up she finds herself running on and on at the mouth like a geyser, and regretting it instantly. Word vomit, she calls it. This tendency to babble is only one facet of her entirely clumsy nature. Never ask her to take on a job in the food service industry - Adelaide balancing trays would end disastrously for all parties involved. She is very studious and hard-working, mostly because she feels she has to be in order to keep up. Addy often wonders why she was put into the Ravenclaw House, when her Housemates all around her seem to be graceful and gifted in so many ways, and she is just… not. Her friend Emmy can sing, Clover can dance, Tobias looks like a Greek God, and Addy can what - trip over throw rugs? At least she has magic to make her feel better.
Physical Description: Adelaide has chestnut brown hair that falls in waves down her back, past her shoulders and often unkempt, a sign of her perpetually frazzled state. She sometimes wears glasses, and on particularly unfortunate days can be seen with a bush on her head instead of tamed hair. Oy. Her eyes are protuberant and brown, probably her loveliest feature, and like her father’s, while her lips are rounded and well-defined like her mother’s. She has the barest hint of freckles across her cheeks and along her arms, for she is very fair. Addy holds a distaste for the sun, in fact, for she freckles under it instead of tanning or even burning. More freckles, bah!
Preferred Body Model: Anne Hathaway
Please give us a sample RP, at least one paragraph in length. 6th character.
Hobbies and talents - max of five:
-- Writing fiction: she bases her characters off the people around her, and they find this habit annoying, most likely. She is a HUGE story writer! Addy likes to make the world she sees even more amazing than it already is.
-- Quidditch: Beating! The one thing she’s not a klutz at!
Weaknesses - for every hobby or talent, the character must have two weaknesses:
-- Gravity?! She will fall over at the drop of a hat. Changing staircases are Merlin’s own curse upon her.
-- General propensity to disaster: she breaks things by accident, rips clothing hems, bungles charm work, seems to be at the root of many potions explosions…
-- She cannot dance to save her life. Adelaide was not given the grace of rhythm. Or any grace, for that matter.
-- Adelaide has no musical talent, whatsoever. She warbles in the shower - and has won herself many enemies hence.
