I come from a military family, so Veteran's Day is very important to me. Regardless of your feelings about the past and present involvement of our military, thank a Veteran today for serving your country.
My grandpa served on the USS Maryland during Pearl Harbor. As a signalman, he was on deck when the Japanese planes arrived.
Later, he served on the USS Laffy. During the Battle of Guadalcanal, the Laffy was sunk, & he & his mates spent the night swimming amidst Japanese ships until they could make it to shore.

My dad served in the Persian-Gulf War, specifically Operation: Desert Storm. He was the pilot of a KC-10, an air-to air tanker aircraft. The KC-10 can transport cargo and personnel, but my dad mainly performed in-flight refueling. Thankfully, he never saw combat.
My cousin is an Army Captain and is currently serving in Iraq. Everyday, I pray that he will come home safe.
To all current and former members of our military, thank you for serving!
