that's the Kitty (Re)Distribution System at work. i think Kitty wanted to live with you and your two territorial, slightly crazy cats.
of course, he didn't vet you and ask about your two territorial, slightly crazy cats. A cat at our local shelter, where hubby volunteers, adopted hubby. and since floofy kitty is a void, we adopted him. and he didn't bother to find out that we have a house full of cats already. we adopted him January 2nd, and it took him until like June to finally kinda feel a little comfortable with the houseful. XD
I don't take much wearing down when it come to animals. However, given that my two knuckleheads nearly killed each other because Oscar thought a kitty was too close to his window, I don't want to take the chance.

No, unless you have the space to keep the cats from beefing (as my bother calls it when his cats go at it), then it's the smart play.
