ok, maybe it's a biiiit relevant, because they're transcribed *toward* each other. It's very cute.

Just to make it better, it was done intentionally. I just looked at the gene report page at FlyBase. In the Etymology field, it says "Named 'SPoCk' because it is a Secretory Pathway Calcium atpase, and it sits near to a gene called 'jim'."

I did see the full name of SPoCk and felt they stretched that way thin. I didn't realize jim came first, though. ;)

I have to admit, my first reaction was sheer glee because I actually remembered that Drosophila was a fruit-fly despite having not taken biology since ninth grade. (Yes, it's sad. I know. But leave me my moments of glory, however pathetic.)

In general, however, hee. That is very amusing.
