This is such a fascinating post...I would love a bit of context (if you have time :)! What is the significance of being "Christmas number 1?" Although anything that messes with Simon Cowell's agenda is good in my book. ;)
Sorry, ignorant American here -- but I want to learn. :D
Arrrgh, I am SO divided about this. There are a number of others on my flist who feel exactly the same way as you (and I sort of do, too!), but then an equal number who think otherwise (as do I!)... Now, bear with me because I am in the middle of writing Merlin fic and I'm also not entirely sure where I stand on the whole xmas no#1 thing. I know I could do with it being off telly and news by now
( ... )
No, this is good! Because this whole thing is, in essence, something I should have totally been able to get behind, but I think because my initial introduction to it was through people being tosspot-ish about it that I just took against it and have remained so ever since. When I've tried to make my argument and debate it with people I generally just get shouted down and told that I clearly want to suck Cowell's dick, so I've had no chance to have actual discussion that might have won me over!
That's interesting about Joe, as the bit I read said that he was all lovely and basically said that as he'd barely come to terms with winning the X-Factor he was actually perfectly fine with having a number 2 single! I do quite like the fact that the X-Factor's four year run of no. 1's has been broken, so I suppose I'm conflicted too!
