So...I've been sleeping on the everyman schedule and just got up from my first nap of the day.
As near as I can tell, I was watching? a Japanese british scifi show -- or something. It was definitely originally in Japanese, but dubbed pretty well (my subconscious is awesome at dubbing), but I was sitting around thinking, "Man, that exchange would have made so much more sense in the original Japanese."
It was something about an orbital space laser and shooting down a plane from orbit (but "Not 'er plane; 'is plane" apparently). And then there was some discussion about who the guy who wanted access to the space laser was talking about, and it ended with him shaking his head and going 上上上上…, and then the other guy figured out who he was talking about and said something not entirely like a poor translated なるほど.
