After a quick flight from Madison to Chicago this morning we settled into our 13 hour Chicago - Tokyo flight this afternoon. The most entertaining part of the flight was one of the snacks, when we were served ramen. so far I mostly feel weird.  I can't tell what is jet lag, what is culture shock, and what is exhaustion from traveling for two days straight.  Mostly I've been trying to unpack, put in a week's worth of hours at work and stay awake during the daytimes and sleep at night.  The whole experience feels so much like a dream already it's crazy.  I ( Read more... )

well I'm back, safe and sound.  all our flights went off without any problems, and I managed to doze for most of the trip.  in spite of that, I still slept until almost 5pm today.  whoops ( Read more... )

Tomorrow we head to the village to start our field work.  Our group has been divided into three smaller groups in order to focus on specific topics.  My group has elected to focus on Women's Health, and we're hoping to have some kind of focus group/informal conversation with a group of older women in the village and also a group of teenagers ( Read more... )

Goodness, they certainly are keeping us busy here!  Our days in Bangkok passed in a whir of lectures, site visits and tourist stops.  My favorite part was the visit to the community health clinic, where we got to learn about their integrated model of health - doctors and nurses work with social workers and mental health professionals all in the ( Read more... )
