I think the plural of "conundrum" is "octopi."

In the discussion I ran into when looking for the correct plural of conundrum the subject of the octopus was raised as well. The best comment I heard was "If you have one octopus and add another octopus, the correct plural is hexadecipus."

Re #2: This is more or less how I feel about same-sex marriage (both sides of the issue, for that matter). Like, if I squint I can kind of see why certain kinds of people would be against it, but why would they devote so much time to railing against something so trivial?

I get why gay marriage is important to those who want to get married, if only as the legal shorthand for "this is the person in my life who gets to make legal/medical/financial decisions for me if I can't". I think some people make unwise decisions about who, when, or whether they marry, with same or opposite sex partners, but I have never been emotionally invested enough in their decisions to try to decide for them. I don't think anyone should marry at 16 (sex yes, marriage no), but I don't *care* enough about it to take to the streets about it, or even to the internet.
