So I know I posted about Dion
before, but I got to go to his show Saturday night and I'm just all about him all over again.
He performed at a small venue on the Lower East Side, and I wanted to go really badly, but didn't feel comfortable wandering around the LES (and trying to find my way back uptown) at 11-12 at night. So I waffled and complained on Twitter, and my friend Lauren picked up on it asking who I was talking about so much. I sent her some of his music, and she immediately was like "YES!" So! I met up with her in midtown and we trekked down together (it was fairly easy to find the place; getting back uptown, not so much).
Dion is amazing. I love his music. He's on my daily playlist at work, and on my weekly "sit at home and listen to CDs." I just really enjoy it. Plus, he's such a nice guy! He talks to all his fans, does a "follow back" on Twitter, and is just really personable. I feel like he's my buddy! I invited him out for a birthday drink (which didn't end up happening at all, with or without him) since he was in town on that day. He was busy, but it sounded like that was the only reason he wasn't coming! When I saw him the other night, he remembered me. Not just recognizing that he'd seen me before somewhere, or recognizing my screen name after being reminded. No, when he came down off stage, I greeted him. "Hey, Dion!" And he looked at me, and was like "Oh, hi--Adina, right?" Yes. Without any prompting. Sweetest guy.
I'd ordered a signed CD from his website when it came out, and received it fine. Now that he has a little more time, though, he's personalizing all CDs that are ordered through the website. So when I saw him, I told him I'd ordered it early, and could he personalize it now. He did, even remembering how to spell my name, and on the back where the track listing was, even changed "Angie's Song" to "Adina's Song." ♥♥♥ We posed for a picture, my camera was temperamental and the lens cap didn't open all the way, so we posed for another one. SUCH A NICE GUY.
Okay, now music. I posted his video for "Daughter," and linked to a few others I liked. But I really highly recommend going to his
page and checking out the music for yourself. His
new album, "Into the Day," is wonderful and has a goofy cover. Also check out his
YouTube channel.
I'm going to see him again Labor Day weekend when
he and Tyler are back in NJ, and since he's NYC-based (when he's not on tour), I'm going to try to go to as many of his shows as I can. I also promote these shows to friends who I know are in the towns where they will be. (If I spam you, just let me know and I will stop! In my defense, if you say you are busy or not interested, I never ask again!) I just want to introduce all of you to these fab musicians.
I played "Into the Day" for my dad and he really liked it. He said he likes him "better than that Tyler guy."
