Don't default on your student loans - you can get the payments deferred, you just have to call up the school financial aid office and have them set it up for you.
I don't really have any advice on the job situation, sorry Nichole :( I would think there has to be something that pays better though and has regular hours. You might be able to find a customer service job in an office - they generally start around $10-12 an hour with regular hours and raises.
A personal loan probably isn't a good idea unfortunately. It would be a temporary solution but then you're left with a bill for the next 2-3 years, which will just compound your money problem.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. anyway, i've been looking into the deferment but i think you have to be unemployed to qualify. im employed, just dont make enough to make the payments. Ive thought about the customer service jobs. i know im being picky but its simply something i couldnt do..sit on the phone all day. i hate the phone as it is. i guess i have to choose the lesser evil..which is being bankrupt doing something im ok with than having money doing something i hate. also, i realize personal loans would be a temp fix. i appreciate you backing that up...your opinion will help keep me out of trouble, for now ;) i just really need to look into some consolidation or something. its been tough to find though..either they only do student loans, or creditcard and car loans...but never together! ugh. its a pain in the ass. oh well...i wasnt counting on the hardware store to be paying me as much as they are for ads so that has been helping out. but thank you so much for tossing out your advice, James -- I knew if anyone could help me

Thats ok that you took a long time. I know you're stressed and busy IRL ;) I'm fairly sure you can defer just on "financial hardship", it should be open to more than just unemployment. From what I understand you can defer up to 1 year of payments
