Every Texas schoolkid *ought* to know the importance of March 6, 1836.....though I doubt as many of them actually *do*. Yes, today was the fall of the Alamo.

Also, FYI, the guy who plays Seguin in the new version is totally hot. (yes, my priorities are mixed up, but I'm only Texan by proxy)

Also, Carson, who apparently is a Davy Crockett scholar said it was the most accurate depiction of the man he's ever seen--more opportunist than hero. However, one of the fiddle tunes he plays wasn't written till a couple years after the fall of the Alamo and that pissed him off (musical history geek that he is)

So, a hot Juan Seguin, eh? I might have to evaluate this for myself.

As for Crockett, this is not a shock. Even in school we discussed that his heroic image was probably mostly a facade. There are some reports that he was attempting to surrender during the final charge (stories conflict from different sources). He, and a non-negligible number of other Alamo defenders were recent arrivals not so much defending their homes as spoiling for a good fight because they had nothing else to do and they were in trouble back in the states.

Interesting to know about the inaccuracy of the music, too. Viva history geeks, no matter what their poison.
