Certain missions in life are eternally on-going. One of mine is self-improvement. it's rare but not unheard of. besides, some people just think of things differently. for example, I consider my "mission" to be to gain as much knowledge about the world as i can. while i'm not focusing on self-improvement, it is an inevitable side effect of learning about the world we exist in. my point is that even though we all have our own ways of going about our lives, we're all essentially on the same journey.

i think the sooner you start thinking about yourself -- especially in relation to others -- the better off and smarter you'll be. i'm so far not convinced there's any such thing as too many smart people.

one of my high school teachers who was fond of aphorisms once said to us, "the biggest room in the house is always the room for improvement."
