I've learned the very same thing about friends. In the past four years, I've slowly trimmed away people who are too negative, too wallowing, and have tried to surround myself with thinkers, with optimists, with survivors who persevere in an effort to keep myself surrounded with the right energy. It's difficult, but definitely worth it, as you're learning.
