This was the main reason we canceled our bank accounts with them. It was our money but they never made you FEEL like it was. So since it WAS our money we said "Screw You" we now bank locally with a Credit Union. MUCH happier and someone on hand to talk to if you ever have a problem. It's great.
The annoying thing is that I didn't start out with them for either card. BoA "acquired" me though mergers. Though MBNA has been sliding down the path of increasing suckage before they were bought by BoA.
This is the annoying thing about credit cards and mortgages... you really don't have that much control over who you do business with. Fortunately, they can't really change the terms of your mortgage at whim like they can with a credit card.
Suntrust did very much the same thing. Except in their case, they even sent me the wrong "opt out" letter. After the fact, their account reps claim they mailed two on the same day. Yeah, right.
I really should update on this... because the saga didn't end. After I finally did get the payoff in, it turns out that the first service rep over-estimated it and that they didn't actually close my account. I have had trouble with other credit cards wanting to keep my account open after I have closed it. I think the idea is that they are hoping that I will forget about some automatic payment and end up charging somethng to it that they can then bilk me on.
So now I need to call them back and ask them to send me the ~$4 I overpaid them. I am betting I am not going to earn 28% interest on that, though I do intend to ask.
