It's from this game:
Portal

The weighted companion cube is a special cube you are given in one of the later levels. You have to carry it through the entire level, using it to solve many puzzles. The writing and the tragic end of the level really is what makes it special though.

It's kind of become a sort of geek symbol since Portal has been released.
