Nipple Shields

I have a love-hate relationship with nipple shields. I love them because they enabled my daughter to latch on in the beginning of our nursing relationship when she might not have otherwise. I hate them because I think they are given out too easily, and without warning the mother about the repercussions of using them.

I'm sure it would be. If you're ever bored and want to do an article on another subject, have at it! :-)

Thanks! I used a nipple shield for a couple weeks because J wouldn't latch and we weaned off them in a couple days.

My baby is stubborn. It took a looooooooooong time to wean off them, but I did it!

Wonderful article. I needed to use one with Faith as well, *except* the LC forgot to mention getting her off it ASAP. We used it for about 6 months until she leaned over one day and latched on because I was taking too long helping her.

On the plus side, (trying to be positive here), at least it meant I was able to nurse her at the beginning because she wouldn't latch on for anything.

Yea, that's why I liked them too. I'm not sure I could have gotten her on the boob at all without the shields.

LOL I guess that was an easy wean then! Heh.

Hey, do you have your nursing story done? Then we could link it in this article so people could read how you got past them. I'm sure it'd be helpful to a new mom using shields.

Not yet, I will try to get it done today. Faithie has been bribed with Sesame and a snack so I can check mail and get dressed. ;o)

Excellent information. I had never heard of nipple shields before joining LJ. Now I know quite a bit more about them. :)

Honey, you are a great writer. The "and been sucessful weaning from them" is perfect! I really appreciate everything you've done here in this community. You always do not only what's asked but you go a little step farther.
