"Everyone deserves a chance to do good with their life. If they can have a positive influence on those around them, if they can make a difference in the lives they touched, they shouldn't ignore the opportunity to do so, because if they miss it, they might never know it again."
Username Origin:
From one possible Romanian translation of "the wish of the good".
Basic Information:
Brooke Lynn Eirichu ("ī-rĭk") is a 17-year-old half-human, half-'Bringer' girl born on July 22 of the year 2012, who is approximately 5 feet and 2 inches tall, weighing 129 pounds. Her eyes are a bright green, the same green of the 'Emerald' power associated with her, and she often wears glasses for fashion purposes. Her hair is a lighter shade of brown or a dark orange, which when not tied back reaches all the way down her back. Her clothing varies, but is most-commonly a pink T-shirt and jeans, or rarely formal wear. She always wears a necklace decorated by a small key, even if she chooses to keep the necklace hidden at most times. Additionally, as with several members of her mother's side of the family-for backstory reasons-Brooke has a mark upon the right side of her face which somewhat resembles a backwards 'F'.
Known Abilities:
First and foremost, Brooke is what is called a "Bringer". The Bringers are a of race of angel-esque beings found only in select locations on the planet of Domionica that utilize "Cardinal Magic", which refers to both holy and unholy powers, although which kind in particular any given Bringer can use appears to be a genetic trait. In addition to their innate magic, all Bringers recover from injuries at a faster rate compared to ordinary humans, but injuries caused by their opposing type (see below) often require special attention before they will begin to heal properly. Some Bringers, Brooke included, will sometimes exhibit an unusual psychological need to help others.
The holy variety of Cardinal Magic, referred to as either "Emerald" or "Sapphire" with the latter being more-powerful, is typically used for creation, often finding use as healing magic. On the other hand, the unholy variety is "Ruby" or "Amethyst" where again the latter is the stronger variation, and is used for destructive purposes, including offensive magic and curses. Moderate use of any of these has no immediate drawbacks, but extensive use can be rather tiring. A Bringer who wields either holy or unholy can be brought serious harm by their opposing type as one cancels the other, and if a strong-enough spell is used against them, they are very likely to be killed. Opposing types of equal strength will usually cause serious injury at worst, while Emerald/Amethyst or Ruby/Sapphire in most scenarios spells bad news for the Bringer wielding the first type named in either pair. Curiously, all forms of Cardinal Magic are effective against demons, but demonic powers are also similarly-effective against all Bringers. Brooke in particular wields the Emerald variety.
In addition to Cardinal Magic, many inhabitants of Domionica utilize "Variant Magic", which refers to the four primary elements and three minor variations of such. These hopefully require no real explanation, as Domionica's Variant Magic is generally your run-of-the-mill stuff. Of this kind of magic, Brooke wields Ice and Lightning, utilizing them primarily for self-defense or to protect others.
History:
Her canon's main plot primarily follows events that are both direct and indirect consequences of the actions and thoughts of a woman named Valata Elnaeus, though this is largely unknown to most of the characters present in the chapters that Brooke originally appears in. At first, the story took an overly-generic “save the land from demons” look with Brooke as one of the main characters, but later on with the gradual revelations of the events of the past, it shifted gears and highlighted from several different points-of-view what is commonly referred to as the "balance conflict" unwillingly caused by Valata a number of millenia in the past-which was basically a long and quite messy argument among the Bringers on the subject of whether hybrids with the power of both creation and destruction were considered equal to, greater than, or less than pure Bringers of either kind. Almost everything that occurs in Brooke's homeland of Korani is somehow related to this, and Brooke herself is unknowingly a descendant of this same person and is initially unaware of the conflict at all.
As for Brooke herself...
Brooke is the older child of Evan and Carina Eirichu, who lived in the village of Senria north of Zyndar, the capital city of Korani, a moderately-sized island on the planet Domionica. The first fourteen years of her life were relatively normal, up until the discovery that her mother's side of the family was capable of using what was referred to as "Cardinal Magic"-a blanket term for both holy and unholy magic-which had been thought to be lost to the world as the Bringers, a sort of angel-like race which had been known to utilize it, had been slowly vanishing from the known world; whether Bringers were truly disappearing or simply going into hiding for any possible reason, none could say. This discovery, however, meant that Brooke was a Bringer, or at least partially so.
Life immediately became awkward for the girl, as news often spread quickly on Korani, resulting in nearly everyone she knew treating her differently than she was used to; some held her in higher regard, others began to consider her a freak in a world whose society consisted primarily of humans, very few had no change in opinion. To the fourteen-year-old Brooke, this was an extremely-jarring experience and resulted in her self-esteem taking a nosedive for a time, with the gradual appearance of Bringer traits-their innate magic, healing ability, and such-not helping matters very much.
Around the time of Brooke's seventeenth birthday, she and her younger brother Jason, by some unexplainable means, were thrown back nearly an entire millenium, where the two had to search for a way to return home. Their search led them to the city of Ilstar on the opposite side of Korani, where they met Bronera Hisako, a half-Bringer Chronomage who agreed to aid them in return for their helping her with a number of tasks, not the least of which was to halt an impending-though minor-invasion from the demonic realm of Hreth, and Brooke's steadily-growing power in Cardinal Magic made her the perfect candidate for the job. Brooke didn't have to go alone, though; she was accompanied by Jason, Bronera herself, even Bronera's personal guardian, the unexpectedly-young Zain Renault. They would eventually be joined by others who wished to aid them in this task: Nalis Édren, the childhood friend of Bronera. The sisters Lauren and Sara, close friends of Zain. A demon hunter known only by the name Sol, who had connections to both Nalis and Zain.
Brooke was initially uneasy with the idea of working with people she had only barely met, concerned that she would be treated similarly to how she had been in the past. Bronera, however, seemed to understand the girl’s reservations and proceeded to explain that in this time, Bringers were commonplace, although most resided in the Lunascen Tower far to the south; to these people, she was entirely normal. Hearing this, Brooke gradually overcame her worries and began to accept herself. The only member of their group she remained uncomfortable with was the demon hunter; for some unexplainable reason, he was found to be intimidating, even outright threatening, even if he intended no such thing.
Making their way into the forest between Ilstar and Zyndar, the group came across Apreire Fiore, who they proceeded to rescue from one of the demons that had evidently split off from the rest of its group. It was a seemingly-thankless effort, however, as despite remaining with them for safety, Apreire was very much an inconsiderate person, obnoxious and rude, talking down to the entire lot and making them all at one point or another consider simply leaving her behind, but Brooke, gradually falling under the influence of her Bringer side, insisted on keeping the brat with them until they reached someplace safe. Then they encountered Crystal, a small girl from the underground city of Domain located beneath Senria. Interestingly, despite her apparent age, the child was fully aware of what Brooke and the others sought to do, and as such she gave them a piece of advice that would lead them on the correct path: the entrance to the realm of Hreth was found within Eternity, a singular mountain in central Korani named for the winding and seemingly-endless paths of its now-abandoned mines. Completely neglecting to take Apreire someplace safe, the group followed this lead, and once there, they discovered that the person behind the apparent invasion was a man named Alex Elnaeus, and that his actions were due in part to both a rivalry and an intense disagreement with his sister Hazel.
It was no invasion after all, but in reality an island-wide family feud, and Brooke found herself and the others caught directly in the crossfire.
Noting the mark carried by Brooke, Jason, and Bronera and referring to it as a “scar”, despite it clearly not being such, Alex immediately assumed the group to be in direct opposition of him and his vague goals. Wishing to remain without interference, he opted to attempt to destroy the group right then and there, first directing his attention to Brooke herself-proclaiming her the Ringmaster; the leader of the group that appeared to be set against him-with his arms beginning to crackle with reddish lightning. Recognizing the danger the girl was in, Bronera shouted for her to fall back, but the warning came too late as a crimson blast of energy tore through the air after her and...failed to hit its intended target; Apreire had jumped in the way of the attack, taking the blow and quickly ceasing to exist, a clear demonstration of the destructive property of Ruby, the polar opposite of the Emerald that Brooke herself controlled. Shaken beyond belief by this turn of events, Brooke stood and stared in shock, not moving and needing to be dragged from the scene by her own brother as they fled back to Ilstar once more.
Things were much more serious than any of them had thought; what would a group of kids like them be able to do against a force such as that? They would need help, and at Nalis's suggestion they began to make their way to the tower to the south, stopping at the city of Cansycia when night fell, as to avoid being out in the dark.
When Brooke awoke, though...
Personality:
Brooke is generally quite friendly but not unbearably so, is sometimes a bit of a worrywart, and is always willing to try to help people whenever she can. However, with only a few exceptions, she will not associate with people who do things with malevolent intent-especially not if they clearly oppose whatever task(s) she has undertaken-unless absolutely necessary, and usually will not go out of her way to make them "turn good" or anything of the sort. If asked to work alongside a person that she does not agree with, Brooke will express some reluctance and debate on whether to comply or not. Usually, the course of action that would be the least-harmful to all involved is what she will choose to do.
She is unafraid to speak her mind, but when she does, it is usually calmly, and almost never about her own wants or needs, of which the "greater good" takes priority over. This priority may be considered one of her flaws; she often devotes so much of her time and effort to her attempts at making a difference for those around her that she will neglect to do anything for herself. Despite being so focused on it, however, she will not force her aid upon someone who refuses to welcome it.
Rarely is she seriously angered, although she can be otherwise upset, especially through failure to accomplish any task she feels is important. Her response to any such failure is her primary flaw; depending on the importance or urgency of the task failed, Brooke exhibits varying levels of depression if she believes she could have made any difference in the outcome. Reminders of past failures tend to ruin her mood and make her spend some time asking herself what she could have possibly done differently, and depending on the severity of the failure in question, it may be necessary to snap her out of it. While it's unlikely that anyone will in-character know of Apreire's sacrifice, mentioning this is a generally surefire way to absolutely destroy her on an emotional level for a time. Additionally, actively taunting her during such any depression may drive her into hysterics.
An inportant thing to note is that some individuals of Brooke's race have an unusual psychological need to help others that crops up from time to time. Therefore, if one were to ask Brooke for assistance, there is a good chance she would be compelled to do everything in her power to comply unless the task involved is not one she can agree with. Depending on how any given request is stated and what details are known to her, it can be possible to manipulate her through this, so long as she believes what is being done is the right thing to do. If her actions are discovered to be harmful, however, she will immediately attempt to undo any damage caused, then proceed to behave as if having failed.
Strengths:
PHYSICAL: Brooke has an accelerated healing rate, most normal injuries heal in roughly 75% of the normal amount of time compared to humans.
MENTAL: When Brooke decides to focus her attention on something, it can be somewhat-difficult to shake her.
EMOTIONAL: She is friendly and considers herself easy for people to get along with, and can be fairly-difficult to anger.
Weaknesses:
PHYSICAL: Injuries made by unholy or demonic means generally ignore her healing ability, and will often require medical attention or the application of healing magic (and not Brooke's own) before proper recovery can begin. Additionally, extensive use of her magic may leave her physically tired and feeling drained.
MENTAL: Brooke's ability to remain focused on a task after deciding to see it through may result in some obsessive tendencies, and she tends to neglect her own needs at such times. Her odd psychological need to help can make her incredibly easy to manipulate if dealt with properly, so long as what is asked of her does not go directly against her personal view of what is right.
EMOTIONAL: While her friendly and accommodating behavior has a tendency to draw people toward her, it can make her seem like a bit of a doormat. Failure at something she attempted to do will sometimes result in a depression whose severity is based on the importance of the task failed. In addition, mention of past failures is a very easy way to absolutely kill her mood. Pushing her further while her mood is already down may result in hysterics.
