Couldn't your roommate have gotten a nightlight? OR WHAT THAT BE TOO SIMPLE A SOLUTION.

She had a string of fairly bright Christmas tree lights that were always on in addition to the lamp that Amy brought. Gaby (the roommate) also refused to use the wall lights since they were flourescent and "they give you cancer". And various other annoying things as well.
