Why we pay for cable  I'm not sure.  Because there is hardly anything ever on.  Even the free movie channel list things I've either never heard of with actors I've never seen - or movies that I know I'll hate.

Yet I cannot convince R we need to just turn it off.  Or make it basic.  I think he holds out hope that one day, something, on some channel ( Read more... )

The cable set up will change when he decided that the fridge and it's inurance policy(policies?) are history. The man is a creature of habit. A quality that can be endearing and enraging. I've got one too. ;)

Nelson DeMille and Pat Conroy are two verbose men who write in pretty prose that usually tends to work for me. And because their careers have been pretty long, most of their work can easily be found in the library. Conroy doesn't have book to book characters for the most part, and DeMille doesn't do series but some of his characters do move from book to book ( ... )

I just recently read 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. I would have bet you money I had read it...but apparently I hadn't or developed full and complete amnesia. Philip K. Dick is always good for a mind fuck.

I'm also a big fan of Terry Pratchett and if you don't want to invest yourself in Discworld, I'd suggest picking up 'Good Omens' which he co-authored with Neil Gaiman. Really fantastic book someone on LJ was kind enough to send me a couple of years ago.

I recently read both "Spin" by Robert Charles Wilson. It's definitely not fluffy. He's also written "Axis" which takes place after "Spin", but it's not nearly as good a story - interesting, but not the same intensity.
I plan to start checking out used book stores for some of his earlier works.

Neil Gaimon and Anne Bishop. Both should be very available either used or on Paperbackswap.com
