I actually loved that episode, well despite the whole twilight becoming an alicorn part. Unnecessary... The True True Friend became my favorite song and still is, even though i havent watched much of the latest seasons.

Most people, including me, consider S3 of MLP to be the weakest of the lot. "Sleepless in Ponyville" is widely regarded as a classic episode, but there are arguments about nearly all the others. Most definitely including the finale -- the general feeling is that it really needed to be a two-parter and was horribly rushed as a single episode.
Oh, and we got 8 songs in the finale.
Eight? "Morning in Ponyville"; "What my Cutie Mark is Telling Me"; "I've Got to Find a Way"; "A True True Friend"; "Celestia's Ballad"; "Behold Princess Twilight Sparkle"; "Life in Equestria". Unless you count the theme, that's only seven, surely?
Of those, incidentally, "A True, True Friend" is probably the most popular to this day.
Apparently the MLP fandom is split about this, about whether they like the idea of Twilight being an alicorn.
Was, rather than is. At the time it was massively controversial. Thankfully, the writers made Alicorn!Twilight work pretty well in the end, so the drama about it has almost entirely disappeared now.
I really enjoyed Sleepless in Ponyville and a few other episodes too. But most of season 3 was like...what on earth were they thinking even writing that.
I may have miscounted the amount of songs. There were just so many, lol. I'm sure one of the songs sounded like a reprise or something. And thanks, looking forward to Season 4 and hopefully having something similar to what Season 1 and 2 were like (or at least somewhere close).
