I've learned to ask about noise when I check out a possible apartment. I so hear you. I'm deaf. It shouldn't be an issue yes? Unfortunately I'm also on the Asperger's spectrum and one of the ways ole high functioning little me demonstrates this is by extreme sensitivity to sound. It doesn't have to hurt to weary me: once, on holiday with a group of friends, we all had turns to choose the background music. When it came to mine, I asked for a few hours of none.

I don't think of myself as deaf, but my hearing is not as good as it used to be, and I think I have something similar going on. I hadn't parsed it as "extreme sensitivity to sound," so much needing a lot of work to sort out wanted sound from background noise. Which makes background noise awfully tiring. (And, increasingly, putting in all that work to sort them out and being unable to do it after all.)

Wow. It's really interesting how people's definitions differ.

Best of luck in your search, dear lady!
