I disagree with your opinion on African-Americans. While I see what you are trying to get across, I see it from another point of view ( ... )

giving the same disclaimer adrie gave, I in no way dislike "african-americans" or blacks as I like to say, but the little rant you gave about them suffering for all of these years...im thinking no. Seeing as not one of them was alive when slavery was still in effect. and I'm sorry, but you are black. just like i am white. i am not western-european-american. And think about this. Irish-Americans. Chineese-Americans. Polish-Americans. The possibilities are endless. These people are called that because they themselves came from that country and/or have an incredible love and passion for their country. Ask any black person 10 questions about african culture or history, odds are they will not know. just like i dont know much about irish history or german history. Which is why i am not an irish-american. nor am i a german-american. I am a white american. They are black americans. There is no other option. We are all americans, so why try to classify ( ... )

Ah...very true. None of them actually exsted when that suffering took place. But it IS part of their historical heritage background.

And those ppl are "proud" of the obstacles their ancestors have overcome through the years.

Just as we are proud of being Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, or any other background we can trace back to. This shows in our holiday traditions, the foods we eat, and the way we view other cultures.

However, I agree that we are all Americans...and there is no need to add a cultural prefix to that. I am simply defending perhaps WHY African-Americans feel the need to be seperated as African-Americans.
