Where was I? Oh yes, there I was, a man in the middle years of life, of an unstable disposition, having read most of the works of H.P. Lovecraft, in a haunted mediaeval undercroft in pitch blackness.( Read more... )
I was cold because it was cold. That's all. It was cold outside and it was cold in the undercroft. Sitting still in a freezing cold place for over two hours makes one cold. I think I'd have noticed if a ghost child sat on my lap. Basically, the ones that could hear what the physchics were saying were just winding themselves up, IMHO.
Well - sitting in pitch blackness, in silence (which there wasn't much of) and primed with spooky stories does make one suggestible. According to the psychics, the undercroft must have been extremely crowded. To start with there were several spirit guides per psychic, at least one each for everybody else, before you even start on the Alchemist, the Little Girl, one or more Grey Ladies, six monks, a blacksmith and various vaguely spooky things.
One does wonder what they all get up to when there aren't psychics and tourists rattling their cages. I read a striking description by one medium - ' You may think that cemetaries are quite and peaceful places. For somebody like me, it's like wandering into the middle of a village square where everybody is gathering round to see who the stranger is.'
