Hi, I was wondering... what kind of dog is that? beast_mistress June 5 2004, 21:20:52 UTC
I saw your avatar at the greyhound community and was hoping that the dog in the picture was yours.

I had a dog that looked just like that when I was a little kid, it was my dads dog and I never did find out exactly what she was. I know that sounds weird but my dad died when I was still little and the dog went a year or two later and all my mom knew was she was white nad reminded her of a german shepard.

Since I saw that your post said you got her from a breeder I was hoping you could tell me what she was. I would really love to have another "Sugarbear" someday, she was the sweetest.

That dog in my icon is not mine, but the dog pictured above IS, and your mom was right - it's a White German Shepherd Dog. They are really, in my opinion, the best dogs out there. I have no doubt your Sugarbear was a wonderful dog :)

Our breeder is Chaparral K9 Training Center. I do hope you get another WGSD! I can recommend to you the Echo Dogs WGSD Recue (search for it on google) for a rescued dog, if you prefer one of those.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that's what it was but I wanted to make sure. I had tried looking at some dog breed books and wasn't able to find anything that looked quite like her, I guess they just failed to list the White German Shepards.

I definitely want a rescued dog, that's how I plan to get my pets for the rest of my life. Unless of course they just fall into my lap like the last dog and cat did, but hey I guess in a way they're still being rescued.

Well, thanks again and congrats on the beautiful dog, I bet you can't wait to be able to pick it up :)

Almost all dog breed books fail to mention the beautiful WGSD. (I don't buy them for that reason!) That's because, in short, the AKC doesn't accept them as the German Shepherd breed - the color disqualifies them - so they've unofficially started being called the "American White Shepherd" or "American-Canadian White Shepherd" (which is good for homeowners' insurance liability, I'm sure) but they are STILL White German Shepherds.

Recued dogs are the best dogs on earth, imho :) But to avoid the riff-raff and risk of bad temperament, displaysia and other health and mental problems, I like to take reputable breeder "leftovers," i.e. the 8-year-old Ute that I just "rescued" because the breeder retired her. It often costs less than a rescue and that way I know they're physically and mentally sound. It's still a rescue, in my eyes.

Thank you, and I hope you do find your new Sugarbear. And you most certainly are correct; I can't wait!! :D

At first clance, it DOES look like she's drooling, but the gate's just ajar. I think.

But still, she's so adorable. ^.^
