[After escaping Spades, Marisa ran to the first place she could think of where she would be safe, sneaked inside and hid. In a certain magician's room. Under her bed. At least until she calmed down. Sadly, she wasn't hidden quite as well as she thought she was...]

[ Meiling had a hard day yesterday. Everyone did. Today she was calm and today she got lucky and the only thing the milk made her feel was tired. A deep, overwhelming tiredness and numbness that she couldn't shake, no matter how many times she napped.

But still! Patchouli was out of her room and cleaning had to be done, and it was about the only thing she could do right now to take her mind off of nearly murdering her friend yesterday, after pulling her off their Mistress.

Of course there were books. There were books everywhere. But what she had latched on to, with her hand under the bed, didn't feel like a book this time. ]

--huh? [ Yoink! ]

And here I was expecting 'somewhere'

Oh. Okay. Good thing I can clean up before she gets back from... whatever she's doing.

That would've worked, too >.>

[ A nod. ] Right.

[ And here she's trying to wipe at the edges of Marisa's eyes and cheek with the corner of a damp towel to get those dim stains away. Slowly and carefully. ]

[Normally, Marisa would've protested this treatment - she wasn't a child - but she was still upset from the strangling and... it just made her feel safer. Cared for. And maybe... maybe Meiling just needed to do this for herself, too.

So, the witch quietly let it continue.]

[ Age is relative! So it's good that the witch doesn't protest because, in a way, she really does need to do this. Saying she had no problem with the way things were going between those two is one thing; acting on it is another.

But, truthfully, she's just acting on her instincts and not quite thinking that deep into things. Thinking was hard. ] I have makeup. [ She vaguely gestures toward a sealed box containing compacts, lipstick, blush, and various other things. ] I never use them.

[Makeup was good as it meant she could TRY to cover up the bruises and not get Patchouli on an immediate beeline to the witch's house to kill Spades.]

...thanks. How come you don't use it?

[ Yes, less murder would be good. ]

[ A slow blink. ] ...do I need it? [ DOES SHE HAVE A ZIT? No, seriously, she's never considered her looks all that important. She takes good care of her body, for the most part, and it's clear. ]

Well... no. You don't really need it, but you could...

[She ponders a moment]

Hey... go grab a chair, bring it in here and sit. Let me show you what I mean.

Okay. [ She drags one over and sits herself down, heavily, hands in her lap. Ah, sitting down is kind of comfortable. Hopefully she doesn't nod off... ]

[Considering how close Marisa is going to be to Meiling's face, if she can fall asleep she has to have narcolepsy.]

Okay, so... the first thing we need to do is put the foundation on. This evens out your skin tone and kinda creates a small barrier against your skin and the rest of the makeup. Kinda like making your face into a canvas for a skilled artisst to make a masterpiece upon.

[She starts with that, smoothing the foundation onto Meiling's face. It was a little weird to be doing this, but it was something... something to take her mind off her near-death experience.]

[ Do not underestimate her Powers of Napitude. ]

It feels icky. [ Like having mud smeared on her face, even though it looks cleaner than mud. ]

You'll get used to it, ze. Once I've got it evened out properly you won't even notice it after a few minutes.

[Smoothing it a bit down Meiling's neck so it blends into her skin better...]

There. Now, the next thing to do is to decide which features to showcase. The idea behind makeup isn't to paint on a pretty face, but to accentuate what you already have. I personally like to draw out the eyes. Mine are so bright, when I do my makeup properly, they almost seem to glow when the light hits them right.

...you've got pretty expressive eyes, so we'll bring yours out, too.

I do? [ It's sort of hard to follow all this, and she'll probably forget it later, but she's honestly trying her best. Focusing, in general, is hard right now, so she stops to blinks forward at herself in the mirror. ] How do you do that? [ Does she have to put something in her eye? That sounds painful. ]

Shh. Sit still and let me work my magic, ze.

[a pause] I don't mean that literally, but figuratively. Close your eyes and relax. I'm going to do various shading with eyeshadow on your eyelid.

[ Meiling nods once and then sits still with her eyes closed, just as directly.

Perhaps a little too still and calm, for her mind starts to shut out the world around her, and her breathing is very even... ]

[Okay, that's a liiiiitle creepy, but it's much easier with Meiling as still as she is. Marisa takes four different colord - green, brown, a light peach color and a smoky grey, and uses them to give those eyes a touch of color, with the green jeing just an accent as to not overpower the look.]

This is going to feel weird, but stay still like you are. I'm putting the eye liner and mascara on now.

[She uses a charcoal liner to give her work more definition and makes sure to blot the mascara so it won't leave faint marks when Mailing blinks.]
