It is a friends only community because I put a lot of work into the lesson plans and while I don't mind sharing the lesson ( Read more... )

I'm adding you. I'm a student ESL teacher but I'm teaching high school night students which translates to teaching adult ELLs since most of my students are 18 and above. :)

Yes! Especially since most of them work day jobs and are always on the verge of falling asleep or just want to hang with their friends. When I see I'm completely losing them, I make them play a silly game to get their blood moving, like Mother May I or Redlight Greenlight. Childish but they learn some interesting vocab and they wake up a bit.

yep, I get mine with Tic Tac Toe and Bingo with chocolate for prizes
and everytime I don't want to teach, I think that theyve been working for 10 hours and are more tired than I am

What a great idea! When I started out volunteering as an ESL teacher they basically gave me a book, a piece of chalk and said, "Good luck." I never had the chance to see how others approach teaching so I think it'd be interesting to meet other teachers and see what they do in class. When I start teaching again, I'll start posting my lesson plans.

A fellow student in my masters program is trying to develop a program aimed specifically towards spanish speakers and the problems they face in learning ESL. She's asked me to help her in the research so if I have the time to help her, on top of my course load and assistantship work, I'll share any good lesson ideas we come up with with the board.

I just recently finished teaching a group of Mexican immigrants and may be able to give you some insight, what is it exactly that you're looking for?

I am an American teaching English to unemployed people in East Germany so they stay out of the official unemployment statistic. As you can imagine, some of my students are not exactly motivated. I am thrilled that there is a community where people can exchange ideas.

Right now I am looking for some creative ways to teach "can". I was hoping for something like the "I bet you can book" but simple enough that beginners will understand the actions being described. I was also hoping for a list of stange facts with can. My class is 8 hours a day, so I need a lot of games and action to keep people interested and engaged.

I'd recommend making a top level post here, not too many people will see this comment and they may have some great suggestions.
