Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton came to speak at Wellesley today to launch her Hillblazers group, which is for "young leaders for Hillary." Being that she's a Wellesley alumna and here we are, going to our Wellesley classes and all that, I think the girls who didn't attend today were totally out of their minds. How is she a "Wellesley woman"? Or rather, how do you define a Wellesley woman? I think college distinctions are interesting.

Also, I haven't really been keeping up with politics (bad, I know), but I've heard that Clinton is the more conservative of the Dem candidates, and that she actually used to be quite Republican; head of the College Reps at Wellesley, even. This could be completely false as I don't remember where I heard it, but I thought maybe you'd know. Would be pretty funny if she was.

Well, our college motto means "Not to be served, but to serve," and one of our unofficial self-labels is that we're "women who will make a difference in the world." I'd say that Hillary fits both of those pretty well; when she left law school, she didn't take a job with a firm or clerking for a judge, instead she went to work trying to improve school attendance. She mentioned something today in her speech about how many kids drop out of school before the end of first grade, and I remember being astounded, though I don't remember the number...that was the sort of thing she was trying to help with just out of school. So a Wellesley woman is a woman who's strong in her convictions, and ready and willing to use everything in her power to change the world, hopefully for the better ( ... )

LOL. You could say that any of the Democratic candidates are more conservative than Kucinich. ;)
