a question about over the knee socks, construction and, well, everything.

Ok, at first this might not seem like an advanced_knit question, I have two skeins of Noro sock yarn, and while I know some people dislike it, I love the stuff. It knits up nicely, and once washed a few times, feels great. But that isn't my problem.

I have some sort of thing going on with my migraines that is causing my left side ot be incredibly weak, to the point that my left leg measures and inch to two inches smaller that my right, which is also losing muscle mass, not because of lack of use, but for nor real discernable reason. so as a result, my legs get really cold really easily if the house is not kept at nearly 76 degrees. And we can't keep on heating the house like this or we will be in the poor house come spring.

ok- so there is the background, and a bit that you did not need to know. the Noro is knitting up best at a zero, which is fine. nice material, warm, still enough of ease that i am not having sausage cake legs. but- this is in the swatch. the problem as i see it are there. i knit a fabulous pair of toe up socks, but the gauge is much larger, and my legs were much larger.

to the point. i want to knit a pair of over the knee socks. i am struggling finding a pattern that accommodates the self striping and increasing, and the two different sized legs. the pattern i used before used elasticized yarn, so no good for this pattern at all. so any and ll suggestions would be appreciated. for all of the socks i have knit, this pair is making me feel like a complete idiot. if i had my camera handy, or was posting from my iphone, i could show you the top that has taken *glup* a year to make with all the mucked up knitting, tearing out of rows and rewriting of charts and finally rewriting the pattern to make sense. but, i will do that another time when i have not been taking up so much time. i hope at least one person can help mith this, refer me to a good pattern or book of patterns- i do have the knitter handy book of sweaters and ppatterns, but am always open for more good books, i would love it, or a single pattern, that with be great. i feel i should also mention i have both stitch and bitch books, and most like that.

thanks for reading the teal deer. and i apologize for the long explanation, but i feel like i needed to get it out there, so that it wasn't one of thos no, i hadn't looked and no i haven't googled. i have. i amd sure i missed things, and would be more than happy to have them pointed out to me.
