Seaming/grafting when you're doing a specific pattern stitch - edited

Hi everyone,

I've searched and searched and tried multiple ways of seaming the side of a sweater I'm knitting (Duo-toned Cardi from Vogue Knitting Fall 2009 issue). It's not in garter stitch, but it's similar, being that in row 1, you would: knit 1, knit 1 in the row below, knit 1, knit 1 in the row below, etc.
Row 2, you would: knit the entire way

Pin it together and sew it on the sewing machine with a thread that will mostly "disappear" in to the colours. And by pin it together I mean, carefully match up the pieces so it looks like what you want it to.

Wow, I never even considered mixing sewing with knitting, but that's a great idea. I can get them to line up so perfectly before I try seaming, too. Thanks!

Most knitters, that I've seen, would rather die than sew so it never occurs to them they can mix and match the crafts together. Good luck. Post a Finished Object photo when you're done, please.
