Every other time I drive home from work, I get these workable song/lyric ideas. (It's a 45 minute drive, so I have plenty of time to reflect.) I sing them to myself so I don't forget them. Then I get home and go to write them down, and either they end up sounding like trite bullshit once they're out of my head or I can't make my brain build upon

I do that too. I think of (what sounds to me) really awesome lyrics or whatever, usually to the beat of a song I'm listening to. I never ever remember them. I actually did buy a recorder but never use it. bleh
