APPEARANCE

Alice stands at five-foot nine, with striking blue eyes and golden blonde hair. Ideally, she's the pretty girl next door, so long as she isn't talking or sneering. She's of German descent, on her fathers side, and a mix of Russian, French and English on her mothers side. She's never learned any of the mother tongues though. She's lean but well muscled and physically fit, a throw back from her PI days and her extreme sports, her legs hold rather a lot of her muscles, which gives her upper frame a still feminine appearance.

Alice has two scars from work related injuries, having been stabbed once, near the hip, by a suspect and shot another time, in the shoulder, in a drive by that happened in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her hip scar is covered with a tattoo of a cross despite her lapsed faith. Following her daughter's birth, Alice had the Russian for 'precious one' tattoo'd on her ankle.

Alice always wears her plain gold wedding band, even while working.

WEAKNESSES. stubborn to a fault, bull headed, argumentative

GREATEST FEAR. losing family, messing up a case, losing control, hurting a loved one

DETAILED PERSONALITY.

Alice has always been prickly, like a cactus. You can rub her one way and it'll be harmless, rub her the other and prepare for a rather sharp, stabbing pain, figuratively speaking. She's argumentative, simply for the joy of having a heated discussion, although at times this shifts into a full scale argument that can lead to destruction. Alice tends to keep her fighting to a minimum when she can, but still indulges in a little shouting. She doesn't share secrets or thoughts, those are hers and hers alone. She's brash, cold and rather rude -until you get under the hard shell she's erected to hide her softer side, and even then her softer side is only a little compassionate and a lot condescending.

Alice's moods shift quickly and startlingly. She can be mellow one second, depressed the next and giddy right after that. She's surprisingly open to listening, but rather closed off about talking. Even knowing her for months, you might realise that you don't know her at all. You might find that she's bullshitted so much that you're learning about her all over again, and even then, it still might not be the truth. Her stories change about five times a week.

The biggest surprise would be her utter adoration for her daughter and husband, two subjects which will always get a smile out of her. She doesn't mind immersing herself in stories of her family, the thing she keeps fighting forward for. Separation from her family, however, makes her somewhat cranky.

She's got a thirst for adventure -hence the nickname- and needs the odd adrenaline rush or two, it's this that spawned her hobbies; rock climbing, cliff diving, bungee jumping, sky diving. Any sort of extreme sport and Alice will try it.

HISTORY

Alice grew up in a stable, two parent family in California. Her mother was a school teacher and her father a police officer. Alice went to public school and always believed she would follow her father into the police force, something that had made her father very proud.

When Alice was 13 her father almost died while on duty, shot during a botched robbery attempt and ending up in hospital for three months to recover from the bullet to the chest. Alice's mother was terrified, pushing Charles to take a desk job, promoting him to the rank of Captain, Charles was placed in charge of the Narcotics division, giving him a safer position and helping to alleviate Marie's stress levels. Alice, still intent on becoming an officer, pushed herself through the police academy, and to her father's pride, graduated top of her class.

While Alice was still a beat cop, she met Jonathan Caine, investigating a case of missing person while crossing with Alice's investigation of a store robbery. The pair wound up working together -although butting heads along the way, to solve the case and apprehend the robbers who were also kidnappers, reuniting a mother with her son. Jonathan, who worked a P.I firm in San Francisco, kept in contact with Alice and the pair grew steadily closer.

After a year, Jonathan declared he'd developed deeper feelings for Alice, and planned to move from San Francisco to Los Angeles in the hope of pursuing a relationship. Alice agreed that she felt the same and was open to taking their relationship further if Jonathan really wanted to live in LA. Within six months, the pair were very serious.

Alice's powers first developed during a job; when she was startled by a suspect and her hands flinched up automatically, freezing the entire room, her partner and the man pulling a gun on her. Jonathan had been working the case with Alice and her partner as a PI and was there, saw it all, and acted calmly and rationally while Alice had a small freak out. Jonathan was accepting of Alice's mutant nature and encouraged her to practice with her newfound ability. Seeing as she could freeze anything in her path when startled, she made efforts to learn how to use her power under conscious will rather than just being startled.

The first time she managed to do this was to save Jonathan from a bullet. This incident cemented their relationship, spurning Alice to admit her feelings of love for Jonathan and he for her. Alice was promoted from Officer to Detective and began working Homicide.

At the age of 24 Alice accepted Jonathan's proposal of marriage. They got married and moved into a small but comfortable apartment in LA, not far from where her mother and father lived and planned to retire shortly, giving Alice access to her ailing mother. In the same year they were married, Alice announced to a slightly shocked Jonathan that she was expecting, and by the end of the year, she gave birth to their first daughter, Jodie Michelle. Charles retired the following month and Alice returned to work when Jodie was four months old, leaving her doting parents to tend to her daughter while she and Jonathan worked.

After just two years of marriage, Alice's powers evolved further and during a small argument, she lost control. Three windows blew up, sending glass everywhere and Alice could only be glad that Jodie was staying with her parents. Jonathan, once again, was completely supportive, despite the damage caused, and encouraged Alice to gain control of the new development. Taking a leave of absence, explaining to her Captain the reasons, Alice worked on a method to use her powers without hurting people.

Using a firing range owned by a friend, Alice spent a week working on her explosive powers to get them to the point where she was confident she was in control of them. It was after she returned home, to her husband and daughter, that a representative for the Mutant Rights Enforcers was waiting, looking to enlist Alice's help and her powers. Following a discussion with Jonathan, Alice agreed to join up although leaving Jodie for any length of time was looking to be rough.

POWERS

• Molecular Immobilization. this is the ability to temporarily freeze objects and people in stasis for a specific period of time. With her powers now, Alice is able to freeze objects and people at will and with concious thought. She can also unfreeze them; either all of them or just a specific parts of them.

• Molecular Combustion. like the immobilization, this is a distortion to the molecular make up of objects or people. Working backwards from freezing, this blows them up, causing an outward projection of the molecules and creating the 'explosion' so to speak. At first this was just evoked in anger, but Alice has steadily started to manage her ability.

TRIVIA

» Alice is an avid skier. She particularly likes free-form.

» Not a fan of literature. She'll read when she needs to, but police reports and snooping in peoples lives put her of fiction.

» Owns a collection of Collins Encyclopaedia. She'll flip through them once or twice a month to find interesting things about random entries.

» She doesn't eat fish. The smell puts of her.

» Suits dark make up, but tends not to wear it. Jonathan once called her a femme fatal when she'd dolled up.

» Quit smoking at nineteen. She's never smoked since, but regularly sits with smokers.

» Has a picture of her daughter in her wallet that she takes out to look at before sleeping.

» Calls her husband at least once a week to talk -she sleeps better after hearing his voice.
