I'm as usual late to the party but I just beat Uncharted 3 today. Don't ask me why it took me so long, I don't know. Maybe it was Saints Row 3 which took all of my time, maybe some other stuff but I still don't get why I haven't played the one game I've been looking forward to for so long. Enough of that, here are my thoughts.
+ The graphics, the music, just everything. Naughty Dog once again knows how to do their thing and the result is simply awesome.
+ YOUNG NATE AND SULLY.
+ The addition of hand-to-hand combat. This is so much fun and I really like punching the bad guys who stand right next to me in the face.
+ I thought that the Djinns were badass enemies. They kind of remind me of Ghost Rider. Too sad you didn't see them more.
+ Chloe kicking ass at the beginning. I love her.
+ The Nate/Elena scene when he was resting. So adorable. Also the very last one with the ring.
+ Talbot. The good-looking bad guy once again, just like Harry in the 2nd game. I have a thing for these guys, ok?
+ Chapters 2/3 (young nate), 14/15 (ship) and17/18/20 (plane, desert, horse)
+ Playing as young Nate was so cute and fun. They really could have added more flashbacks like these in the game. The ship one was simply amazing and I had the impression to play a version of the movie Poseidon. A good version of course. I liked Nate just running around the desert and later on riding the horse. That was so much fun.
+ Having the impression that their team is slowly growing. Chloe, Charlie, Elena, Sully and Nate. I would love to see more of all of them in a new game...
- As much as I tried to enjoy the story and everything, it just felt like a huge déjà vu. Like everything collapsing and you running away at the end, just like the end of the second one. I thought that this wasn't so creative.
- The whole confusion with Sully being killed. Ok, it made sense because Nate was only hallucinating but idk, it did not really convince me even if I'm really glad that Sully survived.
- When Talbot got shot by Charlie and didn't die, I really had the impression that Talbot was under some curse or something and not because he was just wearing a bulletproof west.
- The lack of female characters in this game. We have Chloe, we have Elena, even Marlowe seemed very interesting. But when did we see them?? At the beginning and at the end. Great.
- While you tried to escape at the end and everything was shaking, JESUS CHRIST HOW CAN YOU EVEN AIM LIKE THIS?
- Talking about shooting, I hated the parts where enemies were waiting for you with a goddamn gun when you entered an area and you got shot immediately. WHAT?
- I mentioned my favourite chapters above, but I have to admit that some of them just annoyed me to death and I wish they were just over soon. Like the two ones on the shipwrecks. They were extremely long and hard. They could have made them shorter because this did not bring much to the story either.
- Did I mention that I had the impression that this game was lacking of puzzles? Or at least puzzles which took you more than a minute to solve? The second one for example had some epic stuff at the end but here... idk :/
- The difficulty. Ok, you can laugh at me now, but I usually star playing my games on easy so I can enjoy the story properly and get most of the trophies. If I have time or feel like it, which is definitely the case for Uncharted, I will play it again on another difficulty. But here, I had the impression that easy wasn't quite so easy. Or at least not compared to Uncharted 2. I had to try some parts like 4 times because I died all the time. Or for sure maybe, I just suck at shooting things.
I guess that's pretty much it. I'm replaying some chapters now to get the missing treasures (I'm only missing 7 \o/) and trophies I missed. Not quite sure if I will start my replay immediately again or if I'm going to start a new game (Ass Creed or Skyrim anyone?) but I also plan on marathoning the 3 games at once as well.
Even with these many negative points, Uncharted 3 remains a brilliant game. I read about many people being kind of disappointed by the ending which is really sad. I really had wished for something more epic, idk but after the second one, it was kind of hard to top that. But I know I should have marathoned this game and not only played it like once every week.
Glad to have that out of my chest. I wish I could find motivation and courage to write a whole review on my blog now but I still have so many things to post ;~; This week is also going to be crazy. Still have presents to buy, meeting friends and family and tomorrow we are going to drive to my room in France to take some of my stuff back. So excited you guys!!
