They're easily forgiven because of their natural talents at being cute.

Maybe some human companions just fall short of awesome in the fossil-hunting dog-trainer category! Or maybe said dog is trying to recruit ground squirrel fossil-hunters because of their refined digging sensibilities and local area knowledge!

Maybe if dogs weren't so dang polite, they'd be responding with "Cute???? Cute THIS, leash-fetishist!".

Um, or maybe doggies are just cute squirrel chasers. But I know what _I_ prefer to believe!

I often mistake squirrels for fossils myself.
