Every now-and-then, a band I love will do something I don't quite understand--my favorite example being The Mercury Program, who started out as one of the coolest-sounding bands in existence, only to relegate the coolest part of their sound (the drums) to the far back of the mix and become a jazz ensemble--and I'm forced to sit back and listen to ( Read more... )

I had forgotten all about Kittie - I loved Spit in high school, but never got into their other albums because I transitioned out of my nu-metal stage by then.

yeah--Spit sorta made the circuit around the folks in the know at the station after CMJ that year. I think it was Andrew that first played them for me, actually.

Oracle really rocked my socks, though--it's not nu-metal at all--it's closer to death metal than anything else. I think it came out in...2001?

I was kinda hoping they'd have gone in either a more doom/stoner-y direction or a more spastic, grindcore-type direction, but they haven't. I'd say Made Out Of Babies and Battle of Mice (both fronted by the same woman) are doing something closer to what I expected from Kittie.

I remember seeing Kittie Live at the shithole known as The Pig Pen in Clinton back in winter of '01 but the hell if I remember much about thier set other than the idiots in the pit and the fat dude taking the vacated spot of Fallon. It's been forever since I listened to Kittie...
