Help! College grad needs advice

I just graduated from UCSD with a degree in political science and I am supposed to leave tomorrow for a paid internship in Washington D.C., the problem is I don't know if I should go or not. Probably. Mainly because you already said you would, and bailing at this point is going to look horrible. Presumably the internship is related to the field you intend to work in, and the risk that word may get around that you're unreliable before you're even ready to start getting jobs seems like a bad thing to me. So, I think it's a bit late to be worrying about the cons now. Also, if you already bought the plane tickets, it's not like you can easily get that money back generally ( ... )

All of this.

I had a low paying internship. I had to get a part-time job to go along with it. I was sleepy and worn out many times but it was what was needed to be done. It was so worth it in the long run. Also, look at this as a time to meet new people. You can develop a whole new support community from new friends and people in similar situations.

I'm from CA and I moved to DC. It's nice depending on which area, I'd stay in NW or Capitol Hill NE. I would say GO GO GO!

Speaking as a recent college graduate myself, I'd say you are very lucky to have this opportunity considering the shape of our economy and the desperation of many recent graduates to obtain a chance like this. I would say GO! the truth is, as crazy as it may sound, a lot of these fears will simply begin to fade as time goes on and you adjust to this new environment. You are certainly not the first one to take a leap like this and survive. Good luck, I hope to hear how things turned out for you. I am also looking to move up to DC from North Carolina and I'm basically just waiting on some people to get back to me about some opportunities up there.
