Which is more urgent: getting a new pet or dealing with your mental health? I'm surprised that's the only reason you're deciding not to see a professional and think you should reconsider.
In the meantime, I'd suggest finding the sources of your stress and fixing them. You can also coach yourself not to dwell on them so much. People tend to wallow in their grief like they don't have a choice, but you always have a choice. You can control what you think about and how it makes you feel. Or you can start doing things you find relaxing - e.g. going to the park/beach, taking a walk, watching funny movies, reading good books, etc. There's too much enjoyment to be had for being depressed.
Your mental health is way more important than a dog. And you should not learn to rely on anyone else for your happiness but yourself. That is an unfair burden to put on your partner. I highly recommend getting professional help, and make sure that you find the right therapist for your needs. You'll be glad you did!
