Burgers are my standard of measurement of a restaurant's quality, if only because they're consistently the one thing I can eat off the menu.
I'm a big fan of Bartley's in Harvard Sq, but the service is iffy. Charlie's Kitchen (also in Harvard) has beer burgers that are pretty damn spiffy.
But the best so far is probably British Beer Company's burgers--we went to the one in Framingham/Natick. Daaaamn tasty. Both BBC and Bartley's will allow you to have a burger cooked medium rare (some won't) and really know what that means.

I haven't been there personally, but Ryan (bf) says it's the best burger place in town.
