Hi aearwen. Sounds like a terrible and worrying series of events. So sorry. I deeply sympathize having been through similar episodes of life. (I'm right now getting ready to go back east to move my mother out to live with me after my brother and sister-in-law who were taking care of her decided they didn't want to do it anymore, and then this week I got an acute case of shingles, which I thought I couldn't get as I had the vaccine 3 years ago. Worst pain I've ever felt in my life.) All I can say is this too shall pass. If you can, spend time with your friend, figure out ways to relax and enjoy the moment. Many hugs.
