We have two cats, one of which was inherited from a friend of a friend and one of which was rescued from a garbage alley by Rick. The former has been neutered, the latter has not. He started spraying during the summer, but we clean well and leave the windows open and it hasn't really been a problem. He can't get out and he's perfectly friendly, so ( Read more... )

Yeah, that was more or less what I was thinking.

Does it actually make a difference, health-wise? I mean, I know it's supposed to make them less territorial and aggressive (neither of which are really a problem with this guy) but I've never heard anything one way or another about the health benefits.

I'm also kind of concerned because most of the cheap clinics around here are really skeevy. We can't spare $200 to take him to a vet, but I don't want to go to someone who's going to kill our cat by accident.

It can reduce the chances of some cancers, and it does make the cat less stressed out.

p.s. I got to thinking, about how to better express the stress bit, and all I can think of is that it's kind of like having PMS all the time, but especially when he smells another cat. Add to that insatiable horniness when a female in heat is within smell range, and, well, you get the picture.
