At long last, the much-alluded-to founders fic. I'll be posting the parts of this over the next week or so, once I finish editing each piece. I estimate it will be about 5-7 parts in all
( Read more... )
Accepting marriage proposals? Well, I suppose that would depend on whether or not you are a dark wizard.... ;)
Hah, I wonder if you will think it so nice to see Morass as the piece progresses, though I can't deny that I had a lot of fun writing his interactions with Godric. Erm, except for the one part that was actually slightly upsetting to write. Poor Godric. *remorseful*
I'm equally non-dark. ;) I remember, several years ago, taking this one insanely long, 200ish-question (my memory may be bloating its size slightly, not sure) Sorting Quiz that was like a personality test. I think I was a Gryffindor/Ravenclaw, or the reverse. It would be interesting to see how much has changed in that time. *makes a note to seek out old test for procrastination purposes*
I think Godric really embodies the two sayings "Curiosity killed the cat" and "Cats have nine lives." Well, if you multiply nine by a thousand. Though curiosity isn't his only motivation here, even if he's not entirely conscious of that.
Fortunately the training rooms tend to be well-shielded out of necessity. (Necessity being that both Godric and Salazar use them fairly often.) I am, however, endlessly amused that Rowena's response to her fear of Godric ruining her work on the stairs results in him practicing highly destructive battle magic elsewhere in the castle.
About how old would Godric actually be here anyway?
Well shielded, yes, but capable of withstanding the combined power of Godric's magical growth spurt and the destructive repertoire of Morass?
For some reason I'm not at all surprised at Rowena's reaction. It's more surprising that Helga didn't immediately object. (Then again maybe that is considered the standard remedy?)
Godric's twenty in this story. Helga, on the other end of the spectrum, is thirty-two.
If the shields fail during this training session, Morass is Hogwarts' next line of defense. (Not particularly comforting, I know.)
Standard procedure when this sort of thing happens to Godric is to let him tune his control on his own (with Salazar on hand, in case things get out of control) or under the careful supervision of his mentor. It's not something Rowena has patience for when she could be playing with charms for the stairs. And Helga was desperately curious to know the contents of that letter, so the instant Godric was out of earshot, she demanded the details. Otherwise, you're right, she probably would have tried to include Godric somehow.
How Morass shows up just when Godric has free time, and is feeling upset. The reverse, one might argue, is also true. ;)
Mistakes? Hah, well, in Godric's defense, he's still pretty young here. As to his obsession with war--I would say it's due to his highly competitive nature and his love of adventure (also, explosions are fun). And since his mentor, a master duellist, is hammering him with battle tactics on a daily basis, he naturally applies what he learns there to what he sees elsewhere.
If you are sensing potential pain coming soon...then you would be correct. Glad you're enjoying. :)
Gah, I'm very close to done with editing the next part. I've been hurrying to get that finished with, because of two exams I have that will be sucking up my time over the next two days. I'll have to beg your patience; late tomorrow night will be the new probable posting date.
But so that you are not left entirely bereft, here is the opening segment of the next part, which picks up directly where the first left off.
-- --Morass smiled. Then he swept his wand over the door, and it disappeared into the wall. The windows received the same treatment, and a muffling stillness settled over the training room. It felt heavy, and he moved his arm experimentally, surprised when it moved without meeting resistance
( ... )
There's a certain element of, "Well, I'll show THEM now to let me play in their reindeer games," to his accepting of Morass's tutelage. He's a good guy, and you feel for him that his friends blew him off, but it also makes him seem... well... young.
Ooooooooooooh! That looks so promising! I love the younger Godric! And feel sorry for him he IS the youngest. Precocious child, indeed! And Salazar and Ilaria and... ARGH, everyone else already pointed out ALL the cool things in this story. Hahaha.
I'm just wondering now if Godric would ever use those spells during real battle. Or does he have no qualms about killing a man? Did he ever do so?
It's super fantastic, as always, and it fits our cravings as well but... no Salazar? *whine* Never good enough, eh? Except in the case of your stories, which we all worship. Thank you! <3
If it's Salazar you want to see, you should find the next part both gratifying and frustrating. ;) There's lots of him in the upcoming third part, I can promise you.

I just hope Morass doesn't get so excited about his new toy that he forgets to take precautions to protect the castle.

It's cute, in a super-powered kitten sort of way.
