Even more so since I've discovered that there is no "one true dash" that ff.net accepts, so I have to mix them up to get them past the stripping logic. Hah, I've become a bit resigned to it now, so amusement is setting in.

Oh, were those still working? I gave up on separating scenes on ff.net years ago. If they are determined to strip whatever you use to do so, they obviously don't want you to separate your scenes. Those readers who don't want to cope with the mangled chapters can always hop over to nfiction or skyehawke and read the chapter as I originally wrote it there. Not putting in the extra work of re-editing everything just for one wayward site.

I'm far too indulgent, I know. (And a dinosaur who regards change with a suspicious eye.) Ff.net was the first fanfiction site I discovered, and I've been there for...over eight years, I think. Still, I think I will look into archiving the story somewhere else. Do you have any recommendations? I'm familiar with most of the major HP archives, but I don't know how they are in terms of ease of upload/edit/access from the author side.

I think I first started out on ff.net in 2000 as well and I don't want to leave it. It has the most readers and the best alert system ( ... )

I may try FA, since I already have an account there from long ago, when I was posting Extrapolation. It's a pity that no other archives have the nice alert system ff.net has.

Of course, if I end up reposting, that will probably mean that I'll give in to the desire to edit again....

Thank you for all the suggestions!

Evil ff.net, encroaching upon the most sacred--the long dashes! I am unsure how new my version of Nullifier is, the one I sent you, I could look and compare, if you don't mind me upsetting your stats--I already clicked Confessions (had to get to the Prologue for that, first, that's the only way to get to the list of chapters), and the only difference between my version of the chapter and ff.net's is dashes, so I suggest you just use it and replace the dashes for the type of dash that's not stripped (is it "--"? :D) NOT READ through the chapter!!! Awwww the dashes are in danger, gotta save them! But more important, your rest is in danger, you're supposed to be having relaxing time and enjoying yourself, not getting upset about evil ff.net's behaviour and do un-creative, dangerous work (like looking through Confessions and thinking how it could be edited... Awwww!!!) Let me know how I can help ( ... )

Aww, that sounds like no fun!!

Seriously, I don't understand the ban on characters like that. You have to seperate scenes somehow! Soon people will be putting strings of goobledygook across (which I have seen around actually), or the chapter title or whatever. It always took me a second to figure out why it was there =D

Haha, that's alright.... I'll be happy with a belated birthday present! However, if you want to pass over a lil something of whatever is already written.. I'll be happy to read that too!

I just realized my comment didn't make all that much sense. I meant to say that since people will start using strings of gobbledygook, then soon long words will be gone, then just plain all characters, and we'll be stuck with nothing to read!

Not that that was all that important to add to it... but my brain wouldn't let me rest till I had fixed it!

I'm beginning to get the hang of what ff.net will allow and what it will take up arms against. Looks like "--" isn't stripped if it's at the end of string of dialogue, and the long dash is usually left alone if used within a sentence. I haven't had to throw in the shorter dash yet; I'll be happy if I don't have to at all, it's a bit too short for my tastes.

A little snippet? Sure, it's the least I can do. Here's the opening few lines (dashes in defiance of the new ff.net policy) of slightly pre-Nullifier Harry:

- - -
"Potter."

I looked up blearily at the sound of my name and found myself staring at a blob of pink and black, vaguely humanoid in shape. Oh. Right. I squinted down at the grimy table. I'd removed my glasses, though I couldn't remember precisely when or why. Had something to do with the dull, throbbing pain in my head, probably.

Let me tell you this about headaches: they're fantastic. Really. Like a fucking gauge for how screwed up your life is at any given time ( ... )

She lives! Just kidding everyone thinks college life is full of nothing but fun and games, and well there is a fair amount of that there is also a disproportionately large amount of time devoted to the painful reality which is class work and studying, particularly at a place like MIT.

Sorry about the FF.net problems I just noted that issue the other day, glad it is becoming at least mildly amusing. I have a pretty recent copy of Nullifier, well relatively speaking, I copied it the last time you updated so back in August. If you need it I could email it over.

Thanks for the snippet, it is delicious. I will guess that the fuzzy humanoid blur is Pansy Parkinson, the pink initially hinted at Tonks but the tone is all Pansy.

Good luck with the writing. Hope to get another wonderful cookie soon, as a I am in desperately curious to see what Warin and Salazar are going to say about Godric and Harry's little adventure, and its outcome.

I don't think they've allowed double paragraph spacing for a while, though I may be misremembering. Yeah, ff.net's formatting policies seem...arbitrary at best. I discovered ff.net fairly early on in my fanfiction-browsing years so I didn't frequent too many of the personal archives, but I recall a handful that I liked. There's a nice mixing of content: fanart, fanfiction, etc. You do get a certain level of personalization ( ... )
