PSA: Chocolate coin recall

I just got this warning emailed to me, I checked it on Snopes, and it's true.

Pirate's Gold brand milk chocolate coins, sold in Canadian Costco stores, are imported from China and contain melamine, the same chemical that's been in the news lately for killing several babies in China.I asked my dad, a nutritionist, what the deal is with melamine. ( Read more... )

I try not to buy any processed food that's not produced here in the U.S. I get annoyed when my candy is from Mexico/Canada, let alone from China.

I don't normally pay any attention--I trust the FDA to screen out known poisons, and I don't follow the 100-mile diet. (I'm not saying it doesn't sound like a good idea, I might do it someday. But currently I don't.)

There is a place that has had to recall chocolate body paint because of the same issue :)

That is very scary! I imagine there will be other chocolate coin problems as we approach the holiday season.
