They really did it! They promised to make the software freely available if one of a number of things happened. One item on the list was "average price of a gallon of gas in the Twin Cities drops to $2.79 a gallon." So, today is free software day.

I am wondering what use I might have for this. I keep coming up blank as I've been using Linux so long now that I can't think of anything on Windows I wish I could run. And I'm not a gamer, so that issue doesn't matter to me.

Thanks for the link! (I went and got a code and download on the day of the thing, but I forgot to comment here then.)

Also, thank you muchly for quoting the whole press release. When they went to the "just the downloads" streamlined page to deal with the traffic, a lot of the explanation of what was going on went away as well, so I pointed a few people here first instead.
