I know basically nothing about Captain Jack, having only seen him in two episodes of Dr. Who, but this sounds pretty stupid to me too.

That's all that is required! All you need to know about Captain Jack can be learned from any given Dr Who episode, wherein he is always and consistently flirting with everything that moves.

unfortunately, there is nothing about this entire american-version-of-torchwood thing that makes me think Fox gives a flying f*ck about Whoverse/Torchwood cannon or fan base. Hell, none of us were going to watch it anyway.
