Hawaii, Day Two

Aug 04, 2008 20:32

7:30 am - Joe and I get home. We are teased mercilessly by his family for sleeping in. I guess that means some of us are acclimating to the time change.

8 am - Joe makes me breakfast - he puts cereal on the table and makes me coffee. I couldn’t ask for more.

9 am - Joe, Bob, Kellie, Connor, Mary Ann, and I all head out to the beach. Joe and I are honest about our goals and immediately flop in a large patch of sunny sand. Kellie takes Connor for a walk so he can get acclimated to the beach. Bob goes snorkeling. Mary Ann sits in the shade to watch Bob snorkel.

10 am - Joe and I decide to snorkel. We steal some of Bob’s gear and go in the water. Here I learn a few things - the Parker’s were incredibly environmentally conscious responsible snorkelers. I wish Joe’s family was the same way. The Parker’s were also very serious snorkelers and made sure everyone had gear that fit properly. Gear that fits me would be a huge plus in Hawaii. The Gulf stream is something I had no idea I would miss as much as I do. The water is a bit cold.

10:30 am - Joe sees a coral snake and drags me over to see it. He thinks I’ve made my peace with snakes. He may be correct. I don’t see the snake

11:00 am - We return to the beach and spend the next two hours baking in the sun.

1:00 pm - Joe and I go inside for lunch. I finally have the beginnings of a nice tan. After lunch, I nap for a bit.

3:00 pm - Joe and I go for a short walk along the cliffs around Wailea. There is a paved path between all the resorts and it makes for very good walking.

4:30 pm - Joe and I arrive at the luau.

4:31 pm - Joe and I get our first Mai Tais of the night. They are lovely and made properly - not at all like the Mai Tais in Tiki Bar.

First Mai Tai!

4:45 pm - We are joined by a rather large extended Greek family. They are pretty awesome and make good dinner companions. They agree to use my camera and take a great picture of the two of us.

Dinner!

6:30 pm - In the middle of dinner we are informed that they will teach one lucky person from each table to hula. Ok, cool. Of course, I’m the lucky person. Only one picture will be posted here, but don’t worry - Joe can make a flip book and put it on YouTube any time he likes. Fortunately, he doesn’t know how to use my camera…so some embarrassment is spared.

7:00 pm - The luau show begins. I’ve never been to a luau before, so it is pretty fun. The dancers are awesome - both the traditional Hawaiian dancers as well as some stuff I’m fairly certain is new. It might be just me, but I think Cirque de Soleil is a more recent addition. They close with a fire dancer who is amazing.

9:30 pm - Joe and I collapse into bed.
